EMCVPA gives corporate Jamaica A Taste of the Arts…

June 12, 2018- Kingston, Jamaica: The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts prides itself in offering the highest quality education in the arts and is excited to showcase the talents and training of our students to the wider public. Every year, the School of Visual Arts showcases the works of its final year students in a curated exhibition. Miriam Hinds-Smith, Dean of the School of Visual Arts shares “This year, the breath of ambition and thematically charged presentations bring us into engagement with highly personal works, reflections on memory, faith, evolution, acculturation, mythology, pop culture and identity. Concerns on issues forcible violation, sociological geographical boundaries, emotional trauma and commentary on social media are explored as vehicles for heralding new distinct voices and creative visual vocabularies to the Jamaican art scene. The students work presented, embodies the contemporary and stands as equals yet in instances, surpasses the bar of undergraduate work”

The college believes it is important to showcase these works to a wide audience as possible and has invited the corporate community for a special viewing on Thursday June 14, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. The School of Music will participate in the evening’s activities with performances throughout the tour. The media is invited to attend and cover.

The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts has been through several stages in its evolution. The four Schools—Drama, Music, Dance, and Visual Arts—started out at different locations in Kingston. Two of the Schools, namely the School of Art and the School of Music, are historic because of their establishment in 1951 and 1961 respectively, before the island gained its independence from Britain in 1962.
