Condolences on Canvas for the late Hon. Edward George Phillip Seaga

Kingston, Jamaica – June 03, 2019: The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA) will pay tribute to the late Honourable Edward Seaga with a Portrait on Canvas. The 3 x 4 feet canvas will feature a centralised painting of the former Prime Minister done by a student at the School of Visual Arts. Individuals are encouraged to sign the border of the image to express their condolences.

The Portrait on Canvas will be opened to the public as of Tuesday June 4 at the Edward Seaga Library and Resource Centre at 1 Arthur Wint Drive between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Mr. Seaga often said his first love was culture and was instrumental in the conceptualizing and designing of the Cultural Training Centre for all the Arts (drama, music, painting/sculpture and dance), and donated his own extensive collection of folk music of Jamaica to the School of Music. The cultural Training Centre is the foundation of who we are today the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts has been through several stages in its evolution. The four Schools—Drama, Music, Dance, and Visual Arts—started out at different locations in Kingston. Two of the Schools, namely the School of Art and the School of Music, are historic because of their establishment in 1951 and 1961 respectively, before the island gained its independence from Britain in 1962.
