Marjorie Whylie joins EMCVPA Faculty for Sabor Hispano!

Jamaica’s music darling and icon Marjorie Whylie joins the faculty of the EMCVPA’s, School of Music for a special performance on Sunday November 5, 2017 in their first Faculty Recital for the academic year dubbed Sabor Hispano featuring music from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Argentina, Spain, Chile, USA, Mexico and Jamaica.

Featured Faculty includes vocalists – Anna Straughn, Ruth Browne, June Lawson, Carl Schardsmidt,  Drummer – Derrick “Stewie” Stewart, percussionist- Reuben Betty, Pianists – Michael “Ibo” Cooper, Stephen Shaw Naar, Orville Hammond, Andre Adman, Kayo Yoshida, Angella Elliot, Roger N. Williams and Jon Williams. Also on the distinguished lineup are Rafael Salazar, Norman McCallum, Vivian Scott, Darren Young, Gerd Beyens, Ian Hird and Dwaney Livingston with other special guests.

Patrons can expect world-class performances in this special lineup and will be treated to a fusion of Jamaican, Jazz and Spanish music in a two-hour performance.

The School of Music was established in 1961 and offers Bachelor, Associate and Certificate programmes in Performance, Jazz and Popular Music Studies and Music Education of a wide range of instruments. The EMCVPA remains the first and only institution of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean.
