After a successful staging of Venus a sold out final weekend, School of Drama stages Dream On Monkey Mountain in an intimate open air setting at the Amphitheatre, Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. The play opens Friday (November 7) and will run for TWO WEEKENDS ONLY; November 7-9 and 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays & Saturdays and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Derek Walcott has described Dream on Monkey Mountain as a surrealistic fable, which does not adhere to the tenets of a realistic narrative. The main character Makak’s believes in an unseen force (a white goddess) and the power of his imagination. Directed by Trevor Nairne, who refers to the play as a Rastafarian meditation, the play stars School of Drama alumnus, Christopher McFarlane, as the main character – Makak and the remaining cast complete with students from the School of Drama.
